Ultimate Frisbee isn't a sport most people in India grow up watching. It has no massive stadiums, celebrity leagues or household names. Yet, quietly, over the years, a passionate community in Bengaluru has been building the sport from the ground up; training together, coaching one another and steadily raising the standard of play.
It’s this spirit of showing up, week after week, that resonates deeply with what we believe at Arata: that extraordinary moments are often built through the small rituals we return to every day.
This year, that commitment by Pooja Raghu and her club team, Airbenders, helped them reach a remarkable milestone. They brought home gold at Trio Invitational 2026, an international tournament that placed them alongside experienced teams from across the world.
Something that makes this achievement especially memorable is that Airbenders are not a national squad backed by a federation. They are a club of players who have spent years navigating personal challenges to come together every weekend and play the game, simply for the love of it.
If you catch them in action, you will notice a stirring display of something called the “Spirit of the Game”, which is a structural part of Ultimate Frisbee. It’s the philosophy that integrity and ambition don’t have to exist at opposite ends of the spectrum. Players are responsible for calling out their own fouls and hold themselves accountable for the calls they make.
It is perhaps the clearest reminder that brilliant moments don’t exist in isolation. They’re built through countless everyday choices.
After 11 years of playing the sport, and growing together as a team and as individuals, Pooja Raghu felt the significance of the moment profoundly.
As she puts it, “...the Airbenders community stood by me, encouraged me, and even helped me continue playing when I otherwise might have stopped. They gave me the confidence to outgrow my shyness and insecurities and turned me into someone who went on to compete internationally.”
And this journey is far from over. The team is currently preparing to represent Airbenders at the World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC) 2026 in Ireland, taking place from August 15–22.
