Most of us are so used to relying on store-bought products infused with chemicals to ease our problems - whether it be for skin troubles, hair care issues, or even health-related worries - that we forget the wonders of the natural world. Nature has within it tremendous healing powers, and if we’re able to harness these powers correctly, the benefits we find are immense!

The fragrant leaves of the Peppermint plant is one such hidden gem. This leafy green plant has for centuries been used in traditional healing practises. With its refreshing aroma and soothing natural properties, the plant is known to nourish your skin, hair, and body in holistic way. So what are the benefits of this tiny, versatile plant?

    It Heals Your Skin

Peppermint acts as a soothing balm for the skin, having a powerful healing effect on a variety of skin-related issues. It helps ease inflammation, and is known to have astringent and antiseptic properties that can reduce the appearance of rashes and redness of the skin. You can add a few drops of peppermint oil to your daily cleansing routine, or you could even apply freshly ground peppermint leaves, which are so readily available everywhere, to a home-made face and body mask and dab it onto your skin. It’s best to test a little on your wrist before applying it elsewhere, just to make sure you’re not sensitive to the herb!

    It Promotes Hair Growth

If you massage a few drops of peppermint oil to your scalp, and run some through your hair, the refreshing herb works to balance pH levels, hydrate your strands, and promote blood circulation, resulting in smooth and glossy hair. Simple but super effective! Peppermint oil neutralizes the greasiness of your scalp, and eases any tensions tied up there. Some even use it as a natural hair tonic by blending it with other essential oils. We recommend adding a little to your weekly hair routine for surprisingly great benefits.

    It Stabilizes Your Mood

This versatile, cooling herb has been used in aromatherapy practises for ages. By massaging a few drops of the oil into your skin, or adding the oil to your bath water, peppermint is known to stimulate and enhance your mood. It reduces anxiety, and is pretty calming for any sort of unwanted tension. Try it as an uplifting ritual after a long day at work, and when you’re not in the mood for a coffee first thing in the morning, add some to your morning bath for a refreshing pick-me-up!

    It Tastes Amazing

The most obvious place to find peppermint leaves is as a delicious addition to your meals. Peppermint is often used as a garnish to many recipes, and can be found in cocktails, summer coolers, desserts, and even liqueurs! Our ancestors recognized the soothing properties of this leafy green herb, which is why we’ve always found it in our meals. Peppermint leaves are used for brewing mint tea at home, too. Here’s a simple recipe: blend fresh or dried peppermint leaves with boiling water, and let it steep in a teapot for 10 minutes. Add a dash of honey if you like, and viola! Cooling peppermint tea.

At Arata, we celebrate all things nature-derived and plant-based! We love peppermint because of its refreshing and soothing properties, which is why we’ve added the extract to our Face Wash, which you can view here.
